Blanc fixe & barium sulfate in paint applications (Ⅱ)

Blanc fixe or Barium Sulfate: Practical barium sulfate pigments have two forms: ground blanc fixe and precipitated barium sulfate.

Recent advances in the production of blanc fixe through grinding and rinsing processes have been to improve hue and fineness; and precipitation methods with superior hue and finer particle size barium sulfate have not been extensively used in the coating industry because the former is satisfactory Requirements, and lower costs. The main uses of barium sulfate are industrial primers, including automotive primers. Because of low oil absorption, density, granular or spherical structure, it has good filling properties, contribute to the gloss and has good gloss retention. Almost all of barium sulfate is used in coatings of the type that are important for headliner gloss. Chemical inertness makes it highly valuable in applications requiring high chemical resistance that result in the need for chemical resistant coatings.

Precipitated barium sulfate :added barium sulfate solution into soluble barium salt such as barium chloride , the  precipitate was washed, filtered, dried, crushed, sieved and then get the finished product. Precipitated barium sulfate with  fine texture, high whiteness, acid, alkali, light, heat and high chemical properties. The precipitated barium sulfate has a density of 4.35 g / cm3, an oil absorption of 10 to 15% and a refractive index of 1.64. Made of powder coating film gloss, good leveling , is the largest amount of powder coatings varieties. Precipitated barium sulfate particle size is small and uniform, good fluidity, generally used for higher grade powder coating products. Blanc fixe is natural barite ore by crushing, washing, drying and screening . The purity of natural products is relatively low, ranging from 85 to 95%, with a density of 4.47 g / cm3, a refractive index of 1.64, an oil absorption of 6 to 12% and a broad particle size distribution for low-cost powder coatings.
